Herb Lubalin Article

I started my research reading through the web collection at Lubalin100.com. As I was reading I was noting color combinations that he used and mixes of fonts. I decided I wanted an AI generated background and used the three colors from his prints that caught my eye the most with the prompt avant garde sunrise. It took a couple of iterations but I was pleased with the look. The headline title’s font was inspired by the font Lubalin used for fact: but I adjusted the fonts pinch to make the serfs of the letters just touch one another. The body of the text is Helvetica Neue, which is modern take on the traditional Helvetica font with its tightly packed and sans serf letters. I went back and reused my top three colors to make the statement portion of the article with Bold, Bright, and Balanced each being one of the colors and the three big font types that were used in many of Lubalin’s pieces, Block Serf, Script, and Compressed Sans Serf. These were then repeated in the styles for the three subsections of the article. At a glance focused on education and organizations, Representations is a short sampling of his work and their longevity, and this leads to the lasting impacts. One of the lasting impacts that I was surprised to find was when experimenting with AI systems I found Lubalin as a style in Artvy.ai.
Images were a bit more difficult because of resolution issues and content. If this article is for a Saturday Evening Post reader then some of the Eros and Avant Garde images would be very scandalous. I also established a policy on the pictures to have them bleed to the edge after finding the picture of Herb Lubalin was cropped to take off the top of his head. I would have picked a different picture but there was something in the eyes and the expression that gave a feeling of him constantly thinking about the world around him that I felt was a good fit. That is why the three other pictures are bleeding over the edge. The pages use a 1/2 inch center gutter for text that pictures could cross.
What I would change, I think it is too colorful and some of the bold is lost. When I experimented with this I just kept coming back to the original as my favorite.
